You’ve got to love a place that celebrates the roots of its historic town. Hard Knox™ Brewery in Black Diamond takes its cue from the miners and ranchers who have lived and worked in Southern Alberta since the late 1800s. “Who hasn’t experienced hard knocks at some point in their life?” asks Pamela Lyken, who, along with her brother, Cory Lyken started Hard Knox™. You’ll feel right at home when you step through the doors of the taproom with its casual, homey vibe, created through a custom-designed space by the Lykens. Cory worked tirelessly making the taproom come to life, building tables from a 70-year-old bowling lane, walls planked with 100-year-old barn board, and newly crafted shiplap. All this balanced with industrial legs, and metal accents on a copper-top bar, plus history displayed through black and white photos and antiques, this taproom is tasteful and cozy. This is a true destination for beer lovers and tourists alike. In the summer months they are open 7 days a week, and Bubba Bears BBQ is onsite to serve up southern style pulled pork, ribs, cornbread, Ceasar salad, and ribs. During the winter hours, Hard Knox™ provides artisan meat pies, soft pretzels, sausage bites, and a family recipe of pickled eggs. The complimentary popcorn is a nice touch, and you can even order in from a local restaurant. This brewery is family-friendly, dog-friendly and they distribute their beers across Alberta at all major liquor stores.
