The Foothills, directly southwest of Calgary are a hidden-in-plain-sight cycling mecca for both roadie types and adventurous gravel road explorers. Their merry band will pedal through rolling farmland, expansive ranchlands, and eventually to the base of the front range of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. You’ll ride in the tracks of pioneer ranchers including the famous “Black Cowboy” John Ware, the hunting and foraging grounds of the first peoples of these lands, and explore hidden valleys only accessible by the most intrepid explorers. With very little vehicle traffic, you’ll visit local food and drink producers, enjoy local hospitality in the villages of Turner Valley and Black Diamond, and work your way up the Sheep River Valley. Just you, your bicycle, and some of the prettiest countryside in Southern Alberta. Included in this trip is a wine tasting and tour of Spirit Hills Winery and a tasting and tour of Hard Knox Brewery.
