Long Weekend in the Foothills - August 2-5, 2019

Family Fun

August 3 - Fan Appreciation Night at Seaman Stadium as the Okotoks Dawgs host the Swift Current 57s. This family friendly atmosphere and great baseball action appeals to everyone from the newest fan to the most seasoned viewer. Every home game has a different theme and on some days the kids can meet the team and run the bases!

August 2-5 - Nanton Round-Up Days is a long weekend filled with so much to do you won't be able to fit it all in. Starting Friday, August 2, 2019 with the Slo-Pitch tournament and culminating Monday, August 5, 2019 with the Nanton Nite Rodeo, this long-standing tradition is the perfect way to spend Heritage Day weekend.

August 3 - Friends of the Bar U Historic Ranch Association host their annual day ride across original Bar U lands. Ride your own horse or step up on a horse-drawn wagon. Everyone’s welcome. Reservations are required. Call 403-395-3330 for information.

August 3 - Full Circle Adventures Edible Plant Hiking Adventure will take you on a hike through Foran Grade Ridge where you will discover the ecosystems of the Rockies, who lives there, safe travel in bear country, the food of deer, moose, bear, birds and insects and a glimpse into the web of life in the wild places of the Rockies.

August 3 - Olde Towne Okotoks walking tour: Join Karen Peters of the Okotoks and District Historical Society for a free guided tour of downtown Okotoks.

August 2-5 - Spend some time at a lake! Chain Lakes Provincial Park is nestled in Willow Creek valley, between the Porcupine Hills and Rocky Mountains, about 90 minutes from Calgary. It gets its name from a reservoir created in 1967 to contain water for the agricultural industry in the area, which now boasts lake shore views and supports diverse wildlife (keep your eyes peeled for both pelicans and moose). In summer, you can fish, lounge at the beach, paddle, sail, powerboat, camp, and much more.

This is just a sampling of things to do during this August Long Weekend. Don’t forget to share your favourite spots, we love hearing from you as you #explorefoothills and hearing your #foothillsstory.
