Golf the Foothills

Golfing in the Foothills is all about variety. From the hill country in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains to the edge of the prairies, every course is completely different and offers its own unique challenges as well as stunning scenery. 
 
In the far south is the Nanton Golf Club. With a view of the workhorses of the prairies, the Nanton Elevators, this course offers 18 holes at a club in the country, not a country club. Enjoy the small-town hospitality at the Nanton Golf Club.
 
High River welcomes golfers at Highwood Golf. A unique 27-hole course, split into two courses – the Highwood 18 and the Sptizee 9, this course offers a challenge for beginners and seasoned golfers alike on the banks of the Highwood River.
 
The Turner Valley Golf Club has arguably the most interesting history of all the Foothills golf courses. The club house was once a school, the Turner Valley High School until 1962, when the golf club purchased the building with the intention of making a club house. This 18-hole, championship course welcomes all golfers. There is also a driving range, the Royalite Grill and stunning mountain views. 
 
Okotoks, the largest town in the Foothills has not one, but two courses – the D’Arcy Ranch Golf Club and Crystal Ridge Golf Club. The D’Arcy Ranch Golf Club is quite out of the ordinary. Set on the rolling hills with a panoramic view of the Rocky Mountains, golfers will be impressed with this 18-hole course that incorporates all terrain, from slopes, ravines, escarpments and water. 
 
Down the road at Crystal Ridge Golf Club, they espouse a simple philosophy: play golf, eat and drink, have fun. This 9-hole course with up to eight tee boxes per hole, provides varying degrees of difficulty for every skill level. Make sure you leave plenty of time to sample the fare at William’s Ridge House restaurant.
 
Due east of Okotoks on the banks of the Sheep River, you will find the River’s Edge Golf Club. Chosen as the host club for the 2010 Alberta Ladies Amateur Championship, River's Edge underwent many renovations in preparation for this prestigious event. The result was a challenging 18-hole course that provides enjoyment for golfers of all skill levels.
 
In the shadow of the Rocky Mountains, with the scent of pines on the air, you will find the Wintergreen Golf and Country Club. This 18-hole championship course will thrill the expert golfer as well as not prove too challenging for the novice. If you are looking for a country getaway to improve your short game, putting, driving or just relax while basking in the gorgeous Alberta scenery, Wintergreen is the course for you.
 
Priddis Greens Golf and Country Club is a private club near Priddis, Alberta. They do allow guests access to their two 18-hole courses, the Hawk and the Raven, and if you are lucky enough to get an opportunity to play here, we say take it.
 
Stradling the city and the county, Sirocco Golf Club is a challenging links-style course set in the beautiful Pine Creek Valley. Founded in 2005 and set on 940 acres of family-owned land, this course presents a comprehensive challenge to golfers of all abilities.
