Foothills in winter – outdoor activities

Posted on: Nov 19, 2020

While some may feel wintertime is best spent in warmer climates, Foothills folk know how to make the snowy landscape a magical experience. From snowshoeing, winter biking and cross-country skiing, the Foothills deliver on all counts.

Head out to either Sandy McNabb by Turner Valley or West Bragg Creek trail system for almost unlimited access to snowy trails and winter fun. Trails at both locations are groomed for skiing, biking and snowshoeing. The Sheep River Library in Turner Valley offers rentals of snowshoes and Calgary Cycle's rental/demo location in Bragg Creek can hook you up with a fat bike to test out.

For hiking, skiing and snowshoeing trails, your best bet is Gillean Daffern's Kananaskis Trail Guide books which can be found locally at Bluerock Gallery or Born to Be Adventurous Hikes for Families which can be purchased at Main Street Market in Okotoks.
