A bit about you: My background is in the arts. I am a musician with five CDs released, and have performed around North America, including an appearance on the Rita McNeil show way back when. More recently I got involved in the Alberta film industry where I’ve worked as a Construction Buyer, Art Department Coordinator, Props Master, Locations Coordinator and Assets Manager. A few years back I saw the opportunity to invest in the cannabis industry early and did so well I thought “why not open my own store!?” It’s been a two-year process navigating the provincial licensing process, setting up the company, finding our location and acquiring our development permit with the Town of Black Diamond, but we finally opened our doors on August 1, 2020 marking yet a new chapter in my adventurous life.
Best part of the job? Being part of the Black Diamond community and truly connecting with the people coming through our door. Alongside our THC products we specialize in carrying a wide range of non-intoxicating CBD products and it’s been very encouraging to hear reports back from people who are experiencing beneficial effects from our products.
What do you love most about the Foothills? The beauty of the landscape, the layered, rolling hills leading up to the majestic Rocky Mountains. It’s a very beautiful area.
Tips for tourists: Explore! Explore the natural beauty of the area. Explore the unique, quaint small-business that the towns have to offer. There are so many hidden gems worth uncovering!
Funniest on-the-job story? Having one of my high school teachers come into the store to buy cannabis from me. If you had told me when I was in high school at the Foothills Composite in Okotoks that one day cannabis would be legal, and that I’d own a store in the church building in Black Diamond, and that I would be selling cannabis to my teacher, I would never have believed you! It goes to show how the stigma around this incredible healing plant is relaxing and ending a century-long prohibition.
