Name: Andrea Slack
Hometown: Calgary, AB
About Andrea: My childhood years were in Japan with the Japan Sea as my backyard, along with rice paddies and forests in my front yard so to speak. I spent as much time as I could playing in nature, absorbing the crashing waves, the ebb and flow of the ocean, the smells of the forest floor, the greenness of trees and abundance of plants and wild flowers.
I carry that ocean and forest with me, which influenced my nature inspired art today. I am now blessed to have the Rocky Mountains and Alberta skies to inspire my paintings. Teaching art also gives me much joy, as I love to instill tools and knowledge to aspiring students and watch them grow and develop confidence in painting. The best part of being a painter is that it is a job I am passionate about. I love my work and I get to share that through my paintings and through my classes, paint-a-longs and paint nights.
The Foothills is one of my most favourite parts of living in Alberta. I love the rolling hills, the trees and the close proximity to the mountains. It is just a step outside of the city, so a great get-away from the suburbs. The many little towns from Cochrane to Okotoks contain many treasures. My favourite of course is The Painted Moose Artist Collective
in Bragg Creek
, of which I am a part. Creativity oozes out of The Painted Moose with each art piece hand-made and created by 16 local artists.
